OK, so landscapes is a broad term. I'm talking about wide-angle shots of nature. It's important to get a nice wide field of view of something interesting. However, often times I'll see a beautiful mountain, snap a shot, and wonder why I didn't come close to capturing the majesty. On a crop (APS-C) sensor, I like to go really wide, preferably 10-12 mm, to get a sweeping view of the landscape. It's important to try and get a sense of scale by capturing some foreground objects that the viewer understands the size of. Often, I'll need to do some clarity and contrast editing to get far off objects to really pop. Of course, shooting in the golden hours of sunrise or sunset will provide beautiful light and interesting shadows. Clouds also play a huge role in adding drama to a shot. I'm not particularly good at landscapes, but I love to travel. Find an interesting place, get a nice wide angle lens, and wait for beautiful light or interesting clouds! You'll almost always need some clarity adjustments in RAW editor, particularly if it's not a clear day. Don't be shy touching up your photos....just watch that saturation slider! Remember too that your JPEGs may look much different on your phone than on you monitor....
